Where Grief Meets Grace, and Story Becomes Strength

Kathy Marie Swingle is a Christian author, retired social worker, and mother whose life was transformed by one of the deepest sorrows a parent can experience the sudden loss of her only son, Rodger. What began as unimaginable grief grew into a testimony of God’s mercy, healing, and eternal comfort. Today, her writing serves as a beacon of hope for grieving hearts around the world.

For more than thirty-five years, Kathy dedicated her career to serving others. She graduated with honors from the University of Akron and from the Akron School of Practical Nursing, later working in healthcare, hospice support, dementia programs, mental health, and end-of-life care. In each space, Kathy witnessed the tenderness, fragility, and sacredness of human life.

But nothing could prepare her for the day her own story was rewritten.

When Rodger passed away suddenly at the age of 31, leaving behind three young children, Kathy’s world broke open. Grief became a flood raw, paralyzing, and life-changing. In the quiet of prayer, scripture, and countless tears, she began documenting her experiences, not knowing that these writings would one day become her book, Sudden Death, Eternal Joy: Five Days to Heaven.

What started as a mother’s private journal became a Holy-Spirit-inspired journey through:

  • the mystery of life after death
  • the supernatural nearness of Heaven
  • the power of faith in unbearable sorrow

the redemption and peace God extends even in tragedy

Over fourteen years, Kathy discovered a profound truth:
God does not abandon us in loss—He meets us in it.

Her book shares the extraordinary five-day spiritual journey she believes her son experienced immediately after passing a journey filled with angels, revelation, and divine comfort. Paired with her own path of healing, the story offers grieving hearts reassurance that Heaven is real, mercy is greater than regret, and love does not end at death.

Today, Kathy is a grandmother, a storyteller, and a woman of unshakeable faith. She spends her days writing, mentoring, and creating tools for grief healing through scripture, story, and sacred reflection. Her desire is simple and heartfelt:

to walk alongside anyone facing loss, offering compassion, understanding, and the promise of eternal hope.
